How It's Made
| From a simple pile of wood, the carver selects pieces that will show the highest grain, color and clarity of the wood. Cracked wood, or voids are cut away and used for smaller pieces. | ![]() |

Once the carver selects these raw pieces, he uses his eyes and talent to envision the animal or object that will best show the quality and texture of the wood. |
| Now, using only a hatchet, he makes a very rough outline of the carving he has seen in his mind. |

The next step is probably the most dangerous. Using only a raw circular saw, the master carver trims and further shapes the outer part of the object he has in his mind. |
| Once the “roughout” carving is complete, making any legs or additional carved shapes, he then moves to the “burring tools” to shape and trim the object to a partially finished item. It is now recognizable as a horse. You will also notice that this is a ONE PIECE item. They don’t take legs and just glue them on. | ![]() |

Pieces then move to the finishing/polishing station to get sanded, have a base added and have the accent texture and hand finishing touches of fur or mane and then polished to give the product it’s wonderful final beauty that we bring to you. |
| The total time needed to create this horse was 5 hours. | |
